    hi

  2. nimmo

    hi

  3. erebion

larma: Any recording available? I see mentions of a live stream on the website, but cannot find a recording. https://2026.fossy.ca/schedule/presentation/374/

  4. larma

will be published eventually I guess

  5. erebion

Thanks. Thought I didn't search hard enough, but perhaps I didn't wait long enough instead. :)

  6. MattJ

The estimate I heard was "a few weeks"

  7. Kris

Kinda a shame they don't use Peertube where all that is super easy and basically automated.

  8. MattJ

    What is?

  9. MattJ

They have a dozen hours-long video files to sift through, cut appropriately, etc.

  10. Kris

No need to cut when you start and stop the streams on site.

  11. MattJ

The streams were not started and stopped on site

  12. Kris

Well, it easily could have though.

  13. MattJ

There weren't even people attending each camera, they were just running all day

  14. MattJ

Maybe with an army of A/V staff, yeah :)

  15. Kris

Not really. You make it sound way more complicated than it is.

  16. MattJ

I defer to your expertise at this

  17. Kris

The recordings for Froscon were online the same day.

  18. Kris

While they didn't use Peertube, their system is similar.

  19. MattJ

So next year, attend, volunteer, and show them how it's done

    > The recordings for Froscon were online the same day. Because a dozen volunteers (more offsite) were cutting recordings and also moving sliders and pushing buttoms live while in the room during the recording. The same people also write subtitles and translations, they write metadata and turn up mic gain when necessary and turn on room mics when people have questions.

  21. erebion

Some of those were working on the releases late at night instead of meeting others at the social event.

  22. erebion

It essentially is broadcast level work and the equipment has a price tag like that as well.

  23. Kris

The equippent was there already from the university.

  24. Kris

    In the case of Fossy

  25. Kris

And most of that work you describe is independent from what I said.

  26. cal0pteryx

Kris: You could contact the staff and ask them what's taking so long. Maybe they'll invite you to help ;) Please don't complain into the void.

  27. Kris

I am not complaining. I am just stating the fact that if they would use existing FOSS software to stream it instead of some proprietary thing, things would be much easier.

  28. cal0pteryx

    Please tell them directly

  29. MattJ

They even have a MUC at xmpp:fossy@chat.sfconservancy.org?join
