Libervia project is also working on one mainly as a deltachat bridge I think.

Also as a way to bridge general email, I think, although I can see many obstacles on the way. Like multi-party conversations, where some people are on email and others on XMPP/ActivityPub. Or emails with signatures and quoted replies.

The challenge is not so much shifting the payload from one side of the bridge to the other, but doing it in a way that isn't painful to people in either end
