Maybe a xmpp developers starter pack for Mastodon would be nice?

    > Maybe a xmpp developers starter pack for Mastodon would be nice? Do you mean more to do with ActivityPub, rather? I am like inches away from finishing a big project with nomadic identity and ActivityPub, and was going to poke more with XMPP dev after. I have also been wanting to add some form of a basic bridge for Direct Messages. Meanwhile there's virtually no hope for any constructive improvement to Mastodon if it doesn't originate from their few core devs, at least in what I've observed for the past couple years.

  5. Kris

Libervia already has a AP dm to xmpp bridge.

Starter packs are a new feature Mastdon copied from Bluesky, that lets you easily find and subscribe to a group of accounts

AP is much more than just Mastodon, plenty of improvements possible outside of it.

Actually, seems like official support for that is still WIP, my bad.

  11. Océane

According to Conill it was specified in ActivityPub almost a decade ago as "trunks". Mastodon implements this (poorly of course) as recommended accounts, but from instance admins only

  12. Océane

Anything else could implement Bluesky-style federated starter packs "somewhat easily"

  13. Océane

(That's a joke bc I'm not a developer and I have no idea of the actual complexity of implementing this on a pre-existing codebase)

  14. Kris

I personally do not find that all that helpful on Activity Pub specifically but it seems like a quick win so to say

  15. Kris

on the other hand an authenticated invite link that works for team on-boarding would be a nice thing for XMPP to have.

  16. Kris

especially for teams that are spread over multiple servers

  17. Kris

if it is all on one server, server side shared rosters and default channels kinda work
