I wish conversations could have the option to be set as default SMS app so cellular SMS can be routed to the app so I don't need multiple messaging apps
-
menel
Thr closest to that is https://jmp.chat/ But that's a long way only for disabling one other app

reika
minist3r, agreed.

Ya it would help me convince others to use xmpp
-
contrapunctus
If that means I also get SMS in Gajim, and don't have to switch from the laptop to the phone to respond to SMS, I'm in.

robertooo
contrapunctus, just use KDE Connect.

SMS with any xmpp client, including desktop is possible via jmp 🙂

> SMS with any xmpp client, including desktop is possible via jmp 🙂 Ya but I already get unlimited text, talk, and 15gb for $20 a month I don't want to pay more for jmp ↺

Yes, first remove your current plan 🙂, I agree 👍

on-device bridge? :)

L29Ah
still cheaper than jne due to the branch prediction :P

What's jne

I think it's a joke jmp being an assembly instruction (meaning "goto") jne (jump not equal) being another assembly instruction that jumps only if a previous test of two registers found them unequal jmp is cheaper than jne because the processor can optimize since it knows it will execute it. with jne, however, for optimization the processor has the predict beforehand wether or not to to make the jump the prediction can be wrong hence it's " expensive" if interested look up cpu piplene sorry for the off-topic✎ -

> Jmp is too expensive I don't think it's too expensive for what it does, but it certainly would be too expensive for some use-cases. JMP is a whole phone number with SMS and calls, not "just" a way to get SMS into an XMPP app. From that perspective, I'd say JMP is a relatively cheap way to obtain a phone number, especially an XMPP-enabled one (a feature other phone providers don't support).

For SMS from my existing phone to my desktop, I've used MAXS in the past. KDE Connect is something I'd consider trying in the future.

It's not really expensive I just got a 15gb plan with unlimited talk n text so it's hard to justify around $25 a month for 3gb + talk/text that isn't unlimited
